Is it ok to take laxatives while on verapamil?

October 29th, 2009 -- Posted in Laxatives | 1 Comment »

Ever since I been on verapamil I have been experiencing constipation and hard stools. Is it ok to take laxatives such as Metamucil or Benefiber? I just wasn’t sure if there would be any reaction to the verapamil. Before I started verapamil my stools were like long logs and I ain’t had a logger in months.
I kinda want to avoid another doctors visit. Don’t have insurance. Was hoping others had some similiar experiences to share.

i really think you should consult with your doctor.

Leviquin and Flagyl for diverticulitis and side effects.?

October 29th, 2009 -- Posted in Diverticulitis | 1 Comment »

I’m on my, official, 3rd day of anti biotics (leviquin and Flagyl) for Diverticulitis.

I feel worse today then I did when I started taking it.

My whole abdomen is just aching and my back aches a little.

Vicious diarreah. no fever

Does this come with the medicine or does it just take time to get over this flare up?

Antibiotics can have diarrhea as a side affect. Also diverticulitis can be painful with flare ups.

Check the literature that came with the medication. Also, a good website is drugs.com for information on different meds.

Also, a phone call to your doctor might clear any other questions you might have.

Need advice on IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)?

October 29th, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 6 Comments »

I have ahd IBS now for about 5 years - it prevented me from going to college, from going to university and now it is preventing me from going to an assessment and interview for my career!! Please help.

I know that my IBS is completly psychological!! It becomes worse when i am in a car, in an unfamiliar place - basically when i don’t know where the toilet is, or do not have access to it.

I was at college for a week, and then at uni for 3 months before it became unbareable and too embarassing.

I have been taking Peppermint pills but these don’t seem to help. At the moment, I am basically living off Imodium whenever i go anywhere - for example the cinema where i get clostraphobic. This is now starting to seriously effect my life and i am starting to get depressed.

I have looked at my diet, and nothing seems to trigger it, i exercise regularly.

The trigger seems to be when trying to have new experiances or have no access to a toilet. It is completly psychological and don’t know what to do now.

Please help me… I have an interview on saturday to become a paramedic and i am scared that it is goingt o creep up on me, na d prevent me from actually having the life that i want.

Does anyone know if the hypnotherapy treatement works?

Help!!

Hi,

I honestly had to read this again just to make sure that I hadn’t posted it myself, I thought I was the only person in the world to have this kind of thing. I have never heard of anyone else having this before.

Mine stated when I was pregnant and was put on iron tablets which upset my stomach, which in turn made me not want to go out if it was too far from a toilet, if I didn’t know the place I was going to etc etc.

In the end I ended up not leaving my house for almost 2years and was diagnosed with agoraphobia (which I knew it wasn’t). My fear is not of open spaces or being outside, it is EXACTLY the same as yours.

You need to go to your doctor and get refered to a psychologist or similar. I now hold down a job and have been able to get on with my life somewhat, but as of recent it has begun to creep back up on me and I too have been basically living on Immodium. I am considering hypnotherapy but don’t know if it works.

Please see someone professional before it gets a grip of you the way it has done to me.

If you want feel free to email me.

Has anyone tried the Drnatura Cleanse? If so, how did it work for you? Any other reputable colon cleansers?

October 29th, 2009 -- Posted in Colon Cleansers | 1 Comment »

I’m thinking of trying a colon cleanse, and came across the Drnatura.com website. Does it really work as good as the people claim on their site? If you’ve never tried their cleanse, but have tried others with results, please share. Thanks

I have tried it, and so has my father. You are right, they have great marketing.

In my case, it did produce the result in terms of volume. In my father, who has more of a problem with that, not so much.

However, I later weened myself off it, because I learned that the ingredient rhubarb is habit forming. I think it’s more gentle than formulas that include cascara sagrada, which is too strong for me anyway.

To ween myself, I used triphala, in Planetary Herbs formula, "tri-cleanse." This page says it does not form habits, names what does, and suggests other benefits to triphala:

As for the parasite killing effect, I cannot speak to that, exactly. I saw no parasites nor weird colors or anything.

I knew I had protozoan parasites, not flukes. I tried many things to treat them. Great Smokies lab offers the best tests to find exactly what or if you have parasites to deal with. Of course, no test is conclusive…but they have the best rep.

There are lots of things you can look into for parasites. I’ve taken many herbs, and also took an anti-biotic course. Eventually I got a clean bill from Great Smokies.

Currently I’m taking salt/c and samento…both have Yahoo groups I use.

What are some completely natural and safe remedies for constipation?

October 26th, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 8 Comments »

I am frequently constipated even though I eat plenty of fiber, stay hydrated and exercise. My stools are normal size and aren’t too hard; I just have a hard time pushing them out. I often feel like I have a full colon and rectum (sorry for the details). I used ex lax a few times with success, but I don’t want to become dependent on it. I can’t stand prunes by the way. How can I get constipation relief when on a low calorie diet?

October 26th, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 7 Comments »

I’m on a low calorie diet, and I frequently deal with constipation issues. I only have a bowel movement 2 or 3 times a week. I eat plenty of fiber, exercise, and drink water. What else can i do to make my digestive system more regular?

If you’re eating fiber and drinking lots of water and you’re still getting no bowel movement daily, you may want to eat the fiber in the form of fruit exclusively and in the morning. Apples, pears, and dried prunes. But you should not take large amounts of fiber suddenly, it can actually constipate you.

Start small and build up your fiber intake. Give it a few days. If the fruit still isn’t working, you can be fairly certain you are taking in too few calories and your body is fighting back.

Use a calorie calculator like the BMR & RMR calculator at http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php
Its calculations are very accurate. It will keep you from eating too much, or too little, to shed the pounds.

for the new year i want so shed all my toxins from my previous bad eating habits.however i don’t want to waist my money on fad products neither do i want to purchase online.so does anyone no from personal experience which over the counter products work best?as well as where they can be bought from, the price, amount of pills/mixing powder, results.please give as much Information as possible as well as any other nutritional tips?thanks for helping xxx

Don’t worry. The toxins don’t exist, so there is no point in cleaning your colon of them. Just get started on the healthy diet. Plenty of vegetable, lots of it as salad, lots of fruit, balanced carbohydrate and protein intakes. If I can get to my ripe old age with exercise, good food and no colon pills and no vitamin pills, then so can you.

How can I get over the constipation that Risperdal gives me?

October 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 3 Comments »

I’ve been taking risperdal for a couple of months and can’t get over the constipation it gives me. I have to wait until the weekend when I’m not working, and take laxatives. Vegetable laxative doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried fiber pills also. I can’t afford to be on zyprexa like I used to be on. What can I do?

Eat 5 prunes a day. This is not expensive and if you think you don’t like prunes, you may be surprised. Also eat as healthy of a diet as you can with lots of fiber. Also coffee is a good laxative too.
