How do you feed a 1 year old who’s an extremely picky eater and has constipation?

November 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 2 Comments »

We have a 1 year old who only eats fruits in small portions and his formula. He refuses to eat anything else, or try new foods. He has an extremely bad case of constipation and we have used suppositories a few times and were told by his pediatricion not to. How do we get him to eat more, and help with his constipation?

I had the same problem w/ my little boy who is 15 mos. You will get no help from your pediatrician, that is for sure. I took him to a naturopathic pediatrician and she put him on powdered probiotics. It is the same cultures that are in yogurt but is in powder form. Since it is a tasteless powder you can just mix it in the formula so you don’t have to fight him to take it. It works perfect. You don’t have to go to a naturopath to buy it because you can also buy it at a health food store. It may not have measurements for an infant but it is not something you can overdose him on. Start out w/ a small amount and increase each time in his formula until his bm is a good consistency. If you give him too much he will have a loose messy stool. The kind I use that I buy at the naturpathic clinic I have to give him 1/4 tsp. I swear it works and he can continue using it into childhood if it continues to be a problem. Yogurt also works, but in my experience babies hate the taste, even that new yobaby. Also, if you didn’t already know, apples and applesauce can cause constipation. Hope this works for you, it did for us.

What are the the symptoms of constipation vs. period cramps?

November 10th, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 1 Comment »

I’m just trying to figure out which one I have :P
I’m 13, i’ve had constipation before and i havent had a bowel movement for 2 days now (getting a little worried) i’ve been having gas as well. My tummy hurts, but im pretty confident that is period cramps. My period is active right now, by the way. Thanks to anyone who answers, best answer will be chosen. if you need more info, tell me what and i will add details. Thank you so much!

Constipation pain is higher, closer to your waist, but not quite that high. If you push into your stomach and more toward your side you can feel a firmness. That is the intestines backed up with "you know what". If you let it go very long it can be truly painful and potentially dangerous. Dairy & bread products (donuts, crackers etc) increase constipation as well as antihistamines (they dry you out) and pain medications. Not drinking enough liquids and other things, but these are the most common. The gas is a sign, but chocolate and beans causes gas in many people too.

The cramps from your menstrual cycle are located down further and to each side above your pelvis in the general area of where your ovaries are located. These are increased especially when you pass any clots of blood….. larger clots equal more pain.

I hope this helps you. ":-)

How to get rid of constipation without purgative or sorbiline?

November 6th, 2009 -- Posted in Constipation | 4 Comments »

I have acute constipation; I start my days with 4 tea-spoonful of Sorbiline to clear bowl! If I stop it ever , the trouble starts. I take an apple a day, required vegetables and less carbohydrates, oil. My problem is I am in habit of taking dinner late around 10.30 pm; is it too late! There are so many who take their dinner even after that hour.
How to clear bowl; taking sorbiline for long tme is harmful? I am 57yrs old now/

It seems to me that Sorbiline is laxative in it’s effects. If that is the case, it seems logical that like other laxatives it has cause you to become dependent on it. If you want to break the dependency, you need to change your lifestyle. Eat better (more foods naturally high in fiber), drink more fluids, exercise regularly and leave some time for you at the toilet,

How to get "regular" again after using laxatives?

November 6th, 2009 -- Posted in Laxatives | 2 Comments »

I have been dealing with constipation for the last two weeks. I have been taking laxatives (ex lax) because of this. I don’t want to be dependent on laxatives, but I am constipated without them. How can I restore healthy bowel movements without them. I already eat fiber, drink water, and exercise. I need other suggestions.

Stool softener will do the trick.

Home colon cleansers that clean the entire colon?

November 6th, 2009 -- Posted in Colon Cleansers | 3 Comments »

I hear the pro vs. Home colonic the colon cleansers that you use at home can’t clean the entire colon anyone know of a home colon cleanse that can? that i can get in the store like a the vitamin shoppe or GNC thanks

I hear that Digest It is the most powerful herbal colon cleanser on the market. It cleans your digestive organs from the toxins by breaking up the fecal matters that’s clogging your internal system. Allowing you to have more energy, reduce bloating and gas and relieve constipation.

You can get the colon cleanse at any vitamin shop or GNC but I find that there’s a website that gives you a free trial of their colon cleanse. So save your money.

The free trial means you can try it out, if you find it works then buy the product other wise don’t bother you have nothing to lose. If you do decide to buy the product, it also have a 90 day money back guaranteed. I believe they do this because they are confident in their product.

Digest It is a natural product that is healthy for you. You can get it here:

Do I have IBS(Irritable Bowel Syndrome)? ?

November 2nd, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 4 Comments »

So, anyways this is a little embarrassing to ask, so yeah..I’m 13 and I think I have IBS. I get constipated, then get diarrhea, then it goes back and forth. It’s been that way very frequently, for the past year. I think I got it because I got sick a lot last year, so I took antiboitics, which probably caused it. I notice I get this a lot when I have my period, but now I have all the time! I have school, and it’s embarrassing if I have to "go" during school, so is there anyway this could get better(I know there is no cure), but is there any over-the-counter prescription meds that would work?

I hear ya there. I know it’s embarrasing. The first thing you should do though is figuring out what triggers your episodes. There’ most likely some type of food that your stomach does not agree with. For example with me, I’ve had to eliminate all dairy from my diet, no overly spicy foods, no greasy foods, and no MSG. All of these things throw my digestive system out of whack.

I suffered for about 2 years until I started eliminating foods for a week or so to see if I was sick as much without certain ones.

You are right that there is no cure, but see a gastrenterologist. Mine gave me a prescription, (I don’t remember the name) but you put it under your tongue and it dissolves and helps stomach cramps.

Over time, you’ll get used to this, don’t worry! Good Luck!
