My son has constipation issues . when we were in france I used to give him a water brand called HEPAR ,which helped a lot but in the US I can’t seem to find it .
These are constipation remedies for ADULTS, but you might be able to glean some help from it. My mom swears by fennel tea for baby digestive problems.
get enough fluids (water is best, but you probably already know that; 6-8 glasses a day, minimum)
eat lots more fiber (20-35g of dietary fiber for all adults and at least 30 for those suffering from constipation. whole grains, fruit, vegetables. examples: 1/2 cup green peas=5g fiber. 1 small apple=3g. 1 bowl bran cereal=13g. higher in fiber are: cooked dried beans, prunes, figs, raisins, popcorn (not too salty! don’t dehydrate her or it will work against you!), oatmeal, pears, and nuts. CAUTION: increase fiber intake slowly to avoid gas attacks, which can be painful.)
exercise regularly (probably not feasible for her? but walking is best)
don’t ignore the urge to go.
relax. tension can make it worse.
have a good laugh. (massages intestines and relieves stress)
commercial laxatives are terribly addicting, so try not to use them at all.
"natural" and "vegetable" laxatives are not addicting. often they contain crushed psyllium seed. (same thing as metamucil mix)
if you’re really miserable, nothing will work faster to move things along like an enema or suppository. if you must do an enema, do only clear water or saline-solution; NEVER soapsuds. if you decide to reach for a suppository, pick up only glycerin ones.
review your medications and supplements. there are a number of meds that can bring on or exacerbate constipation, such as antacids containing aluminum or calcium, antihistamines, anti-Parkinsonism drugs, calcium supplements, diuretics, narcotics, phenothiazines, sedatives, and tricyclic antidepressants.
eat small meals to avoid distending the digestive tract.
be cautious about herbs. don’t overuse them. among those touted are: aloe (juice, not gel), senna, rhubarb (medicinal), cascara sagrada, dandelion root, plaintain seeds. if you make a tea of fennel seeds, that can help move things along too. it helps with alleviating gas as well. to a cup of boiling water, use about 10-15 seeds.
it’s important never to strain, as it can cause more serious issues.
beware of certain foods. milk, beans, cauliflower, and cabbage might harm some with a spastic colon while they have a different effect on others.
also i recommend searching for more questions here on Y! Answers under the topic "constipation" and i’m sure you’re bound to find some help!

yes, i know that there’s a genetics selection, but i can’t find it right now
First of all, IBS should be a diagnosis of last resort and ONLY when all other things have been ruled out.
If many people in your family has "IBS" and lactose intolerance, then I STRONGLY suggest that you all get tested for celiac disease which is often confused with IBS and is a genetic based autoimmune disease. Go here for more information about how IBS and Celiac are often confused and this very serious disease overlooked for decades sometimes:
http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/symptomsofceliacdisease/a/IrritableBowel.htm
That being said, lactose intolerance (another red flag of celiac disease) can be congenital, primary or secondary. I am a primary lactose intolerant. Have never made lactase past age 1(the enzyme that breaks down the milk sugar lactose) and never will again.
Secondary can be due to decreased production of lactase, illness causing lactase to be washed out of the gut, etc. Go here:

Well I had a really bad binge today. Tried to puke but not much came back up. I was just wondering what is better to get rid of this binge: laxatives, enemas, or both together?
are you familiar with the word "atomic bomb"

Started a script for diverticulitis while waiting for an ultrasound. Doctor said he doesn’t think it’s diverticulitis, but the medicine wouldn’t hurt me if it wasn’t. The pain is completely gone since the second day of the meds. Would that mean it was definitely that? Or would the meds alleviate pain for other colon conditions as well? Trying to figure out if I can cancel the ultrasound.
Do not cancel the ultrasound!!!
Yes I believe it is possible to alleviate other symptoms. My suggestion is to continue to take it since it is helping until your Dr. advises otherwise, and definitely keep your ultrasound!

I’m 14 years old.
I’ve had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 4 days now. Is there any sort of cure I can use from home?
Not medication wise?
If not, please let me know which medication I need to get.
If you have only had this for four days, how do you know it’s IBS?
You need to eat sensibly for a few days. Fruit, lots of vegetables, fibre. No junk food.
See what happens. If you still have the problem, see the doctor and get properly diagnosed.

I’M REALLY FOCUSING ON LOOSING WEIGHT AND THE MY MAIN FOCUS IS FLATTING MY STOMACH AND LOVE HANDLES,I’VE HEARD THAT USING A COLON CLEANSER HELP WITH FLATTING YOUR STOMACH.PLLZZZ HELP
STOP YELLING AT US!! and realize that you "lose" weight (loose means not tight).
Consider what you are asking. Why would pooping have ANY effect on your abdominal muscles? Sorry, doesn’t work that way. Emptying your colon does nothing but evacuate the feces in there, which builds right back up as you eat. Your body is self-cleansing. You don’t need colon cleansers unless you have a problem, and then your doctor will prescribe something for you.
If you want a flat stomach you need to do cardio exercise to burn off the fat that’s there…eat right so you don’t gain weight, and then do ab exercises and core exercises to tone and firm your muscles.

I’ve been taking antibiotics for two weeks, and its not getting any better I read that some doctors put people on a liquid diet but mine did not just like to here from others about there treatments.
The trouble is that antibiotics as well as dealing with infection kill the friendly bacteria in the gut so adding to the diarrhoea.
A liquid diet would be sensible, try soft foods like soup, ice cream, fingers of toast or bread and butter with a savoury spread or honey.
Normally a high fibre diet is recommended for patients suffering from diverticulitis, but if the antibiotics are partly causing the problem it could be sensible to eat light invalid style foods, easily digestable. And drinking plenty of fluid to replace fluids you are losing makes sense.
You need to replace salt and sugar too.
I am sorry the link is to a cancer site, but it had the most sensible advice I could find about diarrhoea.

Does it really help you lose weight?
Hi Jenny,
Colon cleansers can actually work very well. Colon detoxing actually has been around for many years, dating back to 1500 B.C. used by the Egyptians, and colon cleansing was also reported being used commonly in Ancient Greece. Recently there has been a lot of interest in the new colon cleanse product and with the help of Dr. Oz and Oprah these days, many have a lot more interest in the whole colon detox process.
Many claim that colon detox remedies should be done on a regular basis such as brushing your teeth, taking a shower, or even changing the oil in your car. It’s all a form of flushing the unwanted waste that has been collecting in that area to prevent unwanted build up such as bacteria, decay, or rotting in that area.
There’s an excellent resource that explains what I am talking about in more detail included in the link below.
I hope this helps. Best of luck Jenny!

I’m just curious…does anyone know the effects of consuming expired laxatives? Are they more potent?
They are less likely to work as well, however most medicines and i say MOST meaning most medicines still work after the expiration date. They are just not as powerful as once were. Like tylenol if you take it and its only expired for a few months still works just not as strong. you shouldn’t however take old antibiotics or anything like that because those medicines are intended to be used at that given time and you’re suppose to take all of them.
