How to stop IBS(Irritable Bowel Syndrome.) without any type of medicine.?

February 1st, 2010 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 2 Comments »

I have IBS and my mother refuses to buy me any medication for it. It’s starting to rule my life. I can’t concentrate at school anymore…and it is really getting annoying. Please help me? :(
I agree with MSM. Diet is key! Diets high in fat will make your symptoms MUCH worse! When we eat, the fat in our GI tract sends a signal to our brain that it needs to get moving cause more food is coming. Sufferers of IBS usually have this signal sent faster, add a high fat diet and it speeds up the signal even more. But, if you want to try the easy way first, double up on the fiber supplements (3-6 grams per days) then go from there. Plus there really isn’t a good "medicine" on the market any more. Zelnorm is no longer available but I had every possible side effect from it so I’d just stick with fruits, veggies, good fat (omega’s), and complex carbs.

Are IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and/or lactose intolerancey hereditary?

December 27th, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 4 Comments »

yes, i know that there’s a genetics selection, but i can’t find it right now :(
First of all, IBS should be a diagnosis of last resort and ONLY when all other things have been ruled out.
If many people in your family has "IBS" and lactose intolerance, then I STRONGLY suggest that you all get tested for celiac disease which is often confused with IBS and is a genetic based autoimmune disease. Go here for more information about how IBS and Celiac are often confused and this very serious disease overlooked for decades sometimes:
http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/symptomsofceliacdisease/a/IrritableBowel.htm

That being said, lactose intolerance (another red flag of celiac disease) can be congenital, primary or secondary. I am a primary lactose intolerant. Have never made lactase past age 1(the enzyme that breaks down the milk sugar lactose) and never will again.
Secondary can be due to decreased production of lactase, illness causing lactase to be washed out of the gut, etc. Go here:

What are cures for IBS? (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)?

December 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 5 Comments »

I’m 14 years old.
I’ve had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 4 days now. Is there any sort of cure I can use from home?
Not medication wise?
If not, please let me know which medication I need to get.

If you have only had this for four days, how do you know it’s IBS?

You need to eat sensibly for a few days. Fruit, lots of vegetables, fibre. No junk food.

See what happens. If you still have the problem, see the doctor and get properly diagnosed.

Do I have IBS(Irritable Bowel Syndrome)? ?

November 2nd, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 4 Comments »

So, anyways this is a little embarrassing to ask, so yeah..I’m 13 and I think I have IBS. I get constipated, then get diarrhea, then it goes back and forth. It’s been that way very frequently, for the past year. I think I got it because I got sick a lot last year, so I took antiboitics, which probably caused it. I notice I get this a lot when I have my period, but now I have all the time! I have school, and it’s embarrassing if I have to "go" during school, so is there anyway this could get better(I know there is no cure), but is there any over-the-counter prescription meds that would work?

I hear ya there. I know it’s embarrasing. The first thing you should do though is figuring out what triggers your episodes. There’ most likely some type of food that your stomach does not agree with. For example with me, I’ve had to eliminate all dairy from my diet, no overly spicy foods, no greasy foods, and no MSG. All of these things throw my digestive system out of whack.

I suffered for about 2 years until I started eliminating foods for a week or so to see if I was sick as much without certain ones.

You are right that there is no cure, but see a gastrenterologist. Mine gave me a prescription, (I don’t remember the name) but you put it under your tongue and it dissolves and helps stomach cramps.

Over time, you’ll get used to this, don’t worry! Good Luck!

Need advice on IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)?

October 29th, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 6 Comments »

I have ahd IBS now for about 5 years - it prevented me from going to college, from going to university and now it is preventing me from going to an assessment and interview for my career!! Please help.

I know that my IBS is completly psychological!! It becomes worse when i am in a car, in an unfamiliar place - basically when i don’t know where the toilet is, or do not have access to it.

I was at college for a week, and then at uni for 3 months before it became unbareable and too embarassing.

I have been taking Peppermint pills but these don’t seem to help. At the moment, I am basically living off Imodium whenever i go anywhere - for example the cinema where i get clostraphobic. This is now starting to seriously effect my life and i am starting to get depressed.

I have looked at my diet, and nothing seems to trigger it, i exercise regularly.

The trigger seems to be when trying to have new experiances or have no access to a toilet. It is completly psychological and don’t know what to do now.

Please help me… I have an interview on saturday to become a paramedic and i am scared that it is goingt o creep up on me, na d prevent me from actually having the life that i want.

Does anyone know if the hypnotherapy treatement works?

Help!!

Hi,

I honestly had to read this again just to make sure that I hadn’t posted it myself, I thought I was the only person in the world to have this kind of thing. I have never heard of anyone else having this before.

Mine stated when I was pregnant and was put on iron tablets which upset my stomach, which in turn made me not want to go out if it was too far from a toilet, if I didn’t know the place I was going to etc etc.

In the end I ended up not leaving my house for almost 2years and was diagnosed with agoraphobia (which I knew it wasn’t). My fear is not of open spaces or being outside, it is EXACTLY the same as yours.

You need to go to your doctor and get refered to a psychologist or similar. I now hold down a job and have been able to get on with my life somewhat, but as of recent it has begun to creep back up on me and I too have been basically living on Immodium. I am considering hypnotherapy but don’t know if it works.

Please see someone professional before it gets a grip of you the way it has done to me.

If you want feel free to email me.

How to diagnose IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)?

October 17th, 2009 -- Posted in IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome | 3 Comments »

Is the only way to diagnose IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) with a endoscopy or colonoscopy?

Has anyone gotten medication for IBS without an edoscopy or colonoscopy?

I have a referral to a GI but I do not want to go if I know for sure the only way to diagnose my IBS is with an endoscopy or colonoscopy.

webmd has some good items about it
